Pillar of Flames

Golden Ochre Sky

In the velvet of the callow darkness
flames cascade 'tween earth and sky.
salient colors of glowing golden ochre
leave its fiery reflection in the tears I cry.

I hear thundering hooves in the distance
and its echo rolling against the hillside.
A glimpse of black horses on a journey
with the rim of the sky as their guide.

Somewhere between earth and sky
pillar of flames burns unruly and free.
Flames as decisive and fierce
as the fire that burns within me.

Soon the fire melts the blazing sky
a rainfall of ashes covers my face.
Aimlessly I reach up to catch my ride
who'll bring me to an unknown place.

Weeping tears have now turned to ashes
so has the flames burning within me.
Somewhere between earth and sky
wings of golden ochre fly unruly and free.
